A double record at Brussels South Charleroi Airport: The 800,000 passenger mark was crossed in August 2017

Charleroi, 6 September 2017 – After a July that saw passenger numbers rocket, August has had its own fair share of records. Brussels South Charleroi Airport smashed two passenger number records during the eighth month of the year. 800,602 passengers crossed the tarmac at BSCA, a 10% jump compared to the results for August 2016. This means the 800,000 passenger mark has been crossed, with occupancy rates at 92%.

For summer 2017, the Brussels South Charleroi Airport terminal hasn’t had a moment’s peace. This year’s record summer saw 1,600,429 passengers take off from Charleroi, compared with the 1,446,275 travellers recorded during the 2016 summer break. Growth in 2017 therefore hit double figures.

Airlines filled up with passengers. With occupancy rates above 90% in July and August, all the airlines present on the tarmac at BSCA saw increases in their passenger numbers.

The Mediterranean region welcomed lots of holidaymakers from Brussels South Charleroi Airport. Italy, Spain, France and Morocco were among the top 5 most popular destinations. Poland completes the list, coming fifth, demonstrating the appeal of city breaks and Central and Eastern European countries.

Jean-Jacques CLOQUET, CEO of Brussels South Charleroi Airport, announces: “A year for breaking all the records in 2017? It is perhaps a bit too early to be able to say that. However, this double record for August shows our airport’s firepower. Our potential and the hard work of all the teams at Brussels South Charleroi Airport and our partners consolidate our position as the country’s second airport in terms of passenger numbers. The hard work of each and every individual, combined with the loyalty of our customers, should therefore be commended, as these are the people behind our success.
