SSP takes over the HORECA concessions at Brussels South Charleroi Airport: Starbucks and Burger King come to the BSCA terminal

Charleroi, 27 September 2018 – On 1 October 2018, Brussels South Charleroi Airport will embark on a series of projects designed to adapt its facilities to the arrival of the SSP group and increase its retail floorspace. Following on from the call for tenders launched by BSCA in 2017, SSP was awarded the catering concessions for passengers both landside (the area open to the public) and airside (the area after security control), where a third floor will be built to house the new outlets. The group’s first HORECA point of sale is due to open in December 2018. After that, following a series of phases of work, eleven other outlets will open, distributed throughout the terminal. All of the group’s brands will be present within the terminal once the work is complete in August 2019.

After thinking carefully about the HORECA offering in the terminal and analysing the facilities available, Brussels South Charleroi Airport embarked on an overhaul of its platform in order to meet the demands of passengers and improve their experience at the airport. To this end, in 2017, a call for tenders was launched for passenger catering.

The specifications were drawn up to find a partner that would fit in with the airport’s vision and offer passengers HORECA services to meet their expectations.

After an in-depth analysis of the different tenders received, SSP, world leader when it comes to catering for transport sites, was awarded the contract. The tender they presented fulfilled Brussels South Charleroi Airport’s requirements. It means that some concepts that are particularly well suited to the expectations of different passengers will be introduced, starting in December: from fast food to table service, from the simplest concepts to top of the range options.

Some prestigious and international names will be coming to the Brussels South Charleroi Airport terminal. Burger King, Starbucks and Panos will be opening soon, as well as other made-to-measure concepts like Camden Food. Other outlets specific to Brussels-Charleroi airport will be offering innovative concepts in attractive settings.

In total, twelve outlets will be launched between December 2018 and August 2019. Starbucks will be the first one to open, in the public part of the arrivals area.

We are particularly pleased and proud to announce this new opening for SSP France, achieved in close collaboration with Brussels-Charleroi airport,” announces Gérard d’Onofrio, Managing Director of SSP France – Benelux.

Jean-Jacques CLOQUET, Chief Executive Officer of Brussels South Charleroi Airport, explains: “We are thrilled to be able to count on the SSP group as a new partner for the airport. Thanks to the innovative concepts that will be available to our passengers, we can guarantee a quality service offering something for everyone. We have spent a long time looking for a solution to respond to all the demands, at the same time as optimising our facilities. After thinking very carefully, we have decided to build a Food Court, so a third mezzanine level, to increase the airport’s surface area, as well as the services available to passengers.
