Can Tho Promotes International Air Route Development
On 14 May 2026, Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) and the People’s Committee of Can Tho City held a working session to discuss cooperation on market promotion, as well as the development and maintenance of air services to and from Can Tho International Airport.
According to ACV, passenger traffic at Can Tho International Airport reached approximately 1.33 million passengers in 2019, including around 57,000 international passengers. In 2025, the airport handled approximately 1.11 million domestic passengers, while international air services have not yet resumed.

During the meeting, ACV noted that international visitor arrivals to Can Tho continue to show growth through other aviation gateways and land transport connections. Based on market assessments, the priority international markets proposed for future route development promotion include South Korea, Malaysia, Thailand, Japan and China.
Currently, Can Tho operates domestic routes connecting the city with Hanoi, Da Nang, Hai Phong, Thanh Hoa, Vinh, Da Lat and Con Dao. The parties also discussed the possibility of expanding the domestic network to further strengthen regional connectivity.
Can Tho is considered an economic, commercial, educational and tourism hub of the Mekong Delta region — an area with a large population and growing travel demand. The development of additional direct international services to Can Tho is expected to enhance regional connectivity while facilitating tourism, investment, trade and international exchange activities.

For airlines, operating services to Can Tho may provide opportunities to expand access to the passenger market in Southwest Vietnam, reduce reliance on major hub airports and tap into demand for tourism, business and visiting friends and relatives (VFR) travel from the Mekong Delta region. In addition, the airport continues to offer growth potential, with a designed capacity of approximately 3–5 million passengers annually.

ACV will continue coordinating with relevant authorities on market development and route network expansion activities at Can Tho International Airport, while supporting destination promotion and strengthening air connectivity within the Mekong Delta region.
