Ho Chi Minh City–Colombo direct route to launch in August, expanding connectivity between Vietnam and South Asia

The new direct air service between Ho Chi Minh City and Colombo (Sri Lanka) is scheduled to commence on 16 August 2026, further strengthening air connectivity between Vietnam and South Asia. The route will be operated three times weekly using Airbus A321 aircraft, meeting the growing demand for travel, tourism, trade and investment between the two countries.

As the operator of 21 airports nationwide, Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) continues to play a pivotal role in expanding Vietnam’s international air connectivity. Tan Son Nhat International Airport, the country’s largest aviation gateway, will serve as the departure point for the new route, enhancing connections between Vietnam and emerging markets across South Asia.

Sri Lanka is regarded as one of South Asia’s promising markets, with a population of more than 20 million and a strategic location along major international maritime routes linking Asia, the Middle East and Europe. In recent years, economic, trade and tourism cooperation between Vietnam and Sri Lanka has continued to strengthen, providing a solid foundation for the development of direct air services.

Beyond facilitating travel between Vietnam and Sri Lanka, the Ho Chi Minh City–Colombo route will further enhance the international connectivity of Vietnam’s airport network. Through Tan Son Nhat International Airport, passengers from Sri Lanka will enjoy convenient access to an extensive network of domestic destinations, as well as key markets across Southeast Asia, Northeast Asia, Australia and many other international destinations.

The new route is also expected to attract more international visitors to Vietnam while further strengthening the connectivity of Vietnam’s airport system with South Asia.
