At Long Thanh International Airport, that symbol is the lotus 🪷
Amid the constant rhythm of construction, the graceful form of a giant lotus is gradually emerging above the central skylight of the passenger terminal. From steel and glass-materials often seen as purely functional, a masterpiece is taking shape, where every carefully crafted curve of each petal reflects the enduring beauty of Vietnam's national flower.
Inspired by the lotus, the national flower of Vietnam, the central skylight spans nearly 10,000 square metres and consists of 345 uniquely engineered components, each featuring a highly complex geometry and structural design. Installed more than 20 metres above the ground, every element demands exceptional precision and meticulous craftsmanship. Behind this remarkable achievement stands the dedication, expertise and unwavering commitment of the engineers and workers who are bringing one of Vietnam's most ambitious aviation projects to life.
Once completed, the skylight will bathe the terminal in natural daylight, creating an open, bright and welcoming environment for millions of passengers. Beneath the sun, the lotus-inspired roof will appear to bloom, allowing light to flow gently through its elegant structure in a seamless harmony between modern architecture and the beauty of nature.
One day, as travellers from across the globe arrive at Long Thanh International Airport, what they remember may not only be the scale of a world-class aviation gateway, but also the image of a lotus blossoming at the heart of the terminal.
