Lien Khuong International Airport ready to resume operations, enhancing regional air connectivity

Following nearly six months of construction, the runway and taxiway rehabilitation project at Lien Khuong International Airport is entering its final stage, with the airport scheduled to resume operations on 19 August 2026.

As the operator of 21 airports nationwide, Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV) is completing the remaining project components while preparing all operational requirements to ensure the safe, seamless and efficient reopening of Lien Khuong International Airport.

To date, major project components, including the runway, taxiways, drainage system and pavement structure, have been completed. The remaining works, such as the airfield lighting system, Instrument Landing System (ILS) and supporting technical infrastructure, are being expedited to meet the planned reopening schedule.

Đến nay, nhiều hạng mục trọng điểm đã hoàn thành 100%, gồm: đào phá mặt đường bê tông nhựa; thi công nền đất đường cất hạ cánh, đường lăn và lề vật liệu; nền đá cấp phối bù phụ; đá cấp phối lớp trên, lớp dưới; bê tông xi măng đường cất hạ cánh, đường lăn; mương đá hộc, cống hộp thoát nước và tường chắn đất.

Upon completion, the upgraded runway will be capable of accommodating Code D aircraft with enhanced pavement strength, enabling airlines to operate more efficiently while improving the airport’s operational capacity and connectivity.

In parallel with the construction works, ACV is working closely with aviation authorities and airlines to prepare for the airport’s reopening by reviewing operational procedures, upgrading passenger facilities and ensuring the airport is fully ready to welcome flights once operations resume.

According to the current plan, Lien Khuong International Airport is scheduled to resume operations at 00:00 (local time) on 19 August 2026, with approximately 36-40 flights per day, serving nearly 6,800 passengers daily. The airport’s reopening is expected to restore air connectivity for Vietnam’s Central Highlands region, support the recovery of tourism and trade, and create new opportunities to expand international air links in the future.
