Long Thanh International Airport advances technical testing ahead of operational launch

In the early hours of 12 October 2026, Long Thanh International Airport (LTIA) conducted flight inspections to test and calibrate its Instrument Landing System/Distance Measuring Equipment (ILS/DME) and the lighting system for Runway 05R/23L. The activity is an important step in verifying the accuracy, reliability and safety of key technical systems ahead of the airport’s operational launch.

As the project enters its final preparation phase, relevant teams are focusing on completing infrastructure, testing technical systems and ensuring operational readiness. These activities are essential to establishing a safe and efficient operating environment for the airport’s future operations.

Since late September, LTIA has been conducting its Operational Readiness and Airport Transfer (ORAT) programme to assess the readiness of infrastructure, systems, personnel and operating procedures, as well as coordination among the relevant teams. Testing activities have included the runway lighting and signage systems, baggage handling systems, security screening equipment, passenger boarding bridges and escalators.

Further ORAT exercises are scheduled through December 2026 to assess operational risks and verify the readiness of the airport’s infrastructure, systems and personnel before operations commence.

As a major aviation infrastructure project developed by Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV), LTIA is expected to strengthen Vietnam’s airport capacity and international connectivity over the long term. The ongoing testing and readiness programme marks continued progress towards bringing this next-generation airport into operation.
