Strong growth in the number of travelers – Bergen drives development in the regions

The growth comes mainly from international travel, which increased by over 6 percent, while the number of domestic travelers grew by around 2.5 percent. This shows that the demand for international travel continues to contribute most to the increase, while the domestic market is stable. The international unrest, which has also resulted in high fuel prices, therefore does not affect the traffic figures so far in our figures.

More passengers – moderate increase in air traffic

While the number of passengers is increasing, the growth in the number of flight movements is more moderate. In May, about 56,000 flight movements were registered, an increase of just over 2 percent compared to the same month last year. This indicates that the aircraft are carrying more passengers per flight on average than before.

Foreign travelers contribute most to growth

The number of international passengers increased by over 6 percent, while domestic passengers increased by around 2.5 percent. The development is related to increased capacity and more available seats, especially on international routes.

Large growth from abroad to Bergen Airport leads to further growth domestically

Bergen Airport Flesland stands out in May as one of the most important growth engines in the Avinor system. Over 647,000 passengers traveled via Bergen during the month, which is an increase of about 18 percent compared to the same month last year.

The growth is due to several factors. There has been a significant increase in capacity, especially on international routes, with more departures and more available seats. At the same time, we see that several airlines have had strong development on Flesland.

Last year was characterized by extensive asphalt work that affected the number of passengers during this period. At the same time, we see that the level is now also above what we saw before this, compared to a more normal situation in 2024. This indicates that the growth does not only come from a lower basis of comparison, but also from a real increase in the number of travelers, says Helge Eidsnes.

Peak season for drone flying – don't fly illegally
In May, 3,206 drone planes were registered. This is 500 more than in April, but a decrease of 7.6 percent from May last year.
