Now the summer rush begins: - One of our busiest months

A large turnout is expected during the red days in May, with over four million travelers passing through Avinor's airports. Several red days, not least May 17, make May one of the busiest travel months of the year.
The most popular international destinations in May are Denmark, Spain, the UK, Poland and the Netherlands. The first weekend in May will be busy, and we see just as high pressure as in the summer season, especially on Thursday and Sunday. The busiest days in May fall in connection with the Whitsun holiday. Then we approach 100,000 passengers through Oslo Airport on some days.
– May is one of our busiest months. This is when summer tourism starts, and we see that many Norwegians who are eager to travel are making their way to the European capitals, says Monica Iren Fasting, communications manager at Oslo Airport.
Holiday for hand luggage
May is also a holiday season for traveling with hand luggage, but not everyone is aware of the rules for what can be taken through security. The rules for liquids are the same at all Avinor airports. Liquids must be in containers of a maximum of 100 ml and must be collected in one transparent, resealable plastic bag of up to 1 liter per traveler.
If you are traveling with a traditional Norwegian national costume, it may be a good idea to carry the traditional Norwegian national costume in your hand luggage, but it is important to know both the insurance company's terms and conditions and the airline's rules. Remember to check the traditional Norwegian national costume knife in your checked luggage if you wish to carry it, so that you do not risk losing it at security.
– Brooches and jewelry will set off a metal detector. That's why it's a good idea to collect traditional Norwegian jewelry in a jewelry bag. Also check that the pin on the brooch is not longer than six centimeters. If it is, it is considered a dangerous object, says Fasting.
Send the perfume home
New this year is the option to send smaller items home if you have been unlucky and packed perfumes or other beauty products over 100 milliliters, or sharp objects.
– The Point kiosk at departure now sells bubble wrap envelopes, and there is a mailbox right outside. You can arrange postage yourself through the Posten website. We hope this will be a good solution for travelers, says Fasting.
