Aruba Airport Authority N.V. (AAA) Undergoes Major Rehabilitation of Taxiway Golf

Aruba Airport Authority N.V. (AAA) has commenced a significant infrastructure upgrade with the renovation of Taxiway Golf, a critical component of the airport’s airside operations.

Originally constructed in 1997, Taxiway Golf is undergoing a comprehensive rehabilitation to extend its lifespan by another 20 years, ensuring continued safety and efficiency in aircraft movement.

The renovation project involves two pavement reconstruction techniques: a full-depth reconstruction and mill-and-pave. The full-depth reconstruction entails the complete removal and rebuilding of both the pavement and its foundational layers, whilst the mill-and-pave process removes damaged pavement and repaves it with new asphalt.

Project Timeline:

  • Phase 1, currently in progress, focuses on the straight section of Taxiway Golf that connects the aircraft stands to the runway.
  • Phase 2 will start in September and spans 5 weeks, covering the beginning of Taxiway Golf and Taxiway Charlie.
  • Phase 3 is scheduled for October, lasting 1 week, and will complete the connection between Taxiway Golf and Runway 11.

During this renovation project, aircraft are temporarily using the runway to taxi, making a controlled U-turn at the end before takeoff. This operation requires strong coordination between AAA, ANSA (Air Navigation Services Aruba), and airline partners. Aircraft operations have continued smoothly, with only minimal impact from these adjustments. The project is being carried out in partnership with a local construction company, supported by a Canadian consultancy firm responsible for daily supervision, quality control, and assurance. Additionally, pavement materials are being tested by a third-party laboratory to ensure compliance with international standards.

This proactive renovation initiative reflects AAA’s commitment to maintaining optimal pavement conditions for safe airport operations. AAA appreciates the patience and understanding of all airport users during this essential upgrade and looks forward to unveiling a stronger, more resilient Taxiway Golf by the end of the year.
