Aruba Airport Authority Introduces New Environmental Management System and Policy

Aruba Airport Authority N.V. (AAA) has officially launched its new Environmental Management System (EMS) and Environmental Policy, reaffirming the airport’s commitment to sustainable growth and environmental stewardship.

The new EMS is structured around six key pillars that together form the foundation for a more resilient and environmentally responsible airport:

  • Carbon Emissions & Energy Management
  • Water Management
  • Waste Management
  • Air Quality & Noise Management
  • Biodiversity Protection
  • Climate Risk & Resilience Management

Advancing Waste Management Under Pillar 3

As part of the Waste Management pillar, AAA has developed a Sustainable Waste Management Plan that sets out the airport’s strategy to reduce waste-to-landfill and establish a baseline for recycling efforts.

In Phase 1 of the plan, new waste separation bins are being introduced throughout the airport terminal. These bins will enable passengers, visitors, and staff to separate waste into Aluminum Cans, Plastic Bottles, and General Waste, making it easier to recycle and minimize landfill waste.

Phase 2 will focus on monitoring and recording waste data to evaluate the performance of the program, ensuring continuous improvement. This phase will allow AAA to refine processes, optimize waste separation, and measure progress against sustainability targets.

Commitment to a Greener Future

Through collaboration with key stakeholders, AAA aims to continuously reduce its environmental footprint, lower pollution and waste, and protect the natural environment surrounding Aruba’s gateway. With the new EMS and Environmental Policy, AAA is paving the way for a more sustainable future, enhancing environmental efficiency, promoting awareness, and ensuring that Aruba Airport remains a leader in sustainable aviation within the Caribbean region.
