Qatar Airways sees strong demand for Birmingham Service one year on

Qatar Airways is reporting strong demand from business and leisure travellers and cargo shippers from the Midlands as it celebrates its first anniversary of flights from Birmingham Airport to Doha

Qatar Airways commenced flights from Birmingham to Doha on 30th March 2016, offering a daily non-stop service to Doha where passengers can seamlessly transfer at its state-of-the-art hub, Hamad International Airport, to flights to over 150 destinations in regions including Asia, Australasia, Africa and the Middle East.

The flight is operated by a state-of-the-art 254 seat Boeing 787 Dreamliner – representing a capacity of over 3,500 seats and over 110 tonnes of cargo carrying capacity per week to and from Birmingham.

Morena Bronzetti, Qatar Airways’ Country Manager UK & Ireland, said: “Just a year on from the start of our service from Birmingham, levels of both passenger and cargo demand are strong and exceeding our expectations.

“It’s clear that business and leisure travellers and cargo shippers from the Midlands have recognised the benefits of being able to travel from their local airport to the huge choice of destinations we serve across the globe.”

To celebrate the anniversary, Qatar Airways offered passengers flying out of Birmingham Airport last Thursday the chance to win prizes including two free flights for their next holiday and a selection of luxury gifts.

The airport hosted a treasure hunt for passengers booked on the afternoon flight to Doha. Passengers who found special anniversary paper aeroplanes hidden in the airport terminal claimed their prizes before boarding the flight.

David Winstanley, Chief Operating Officer, Birmingham Airport, said: “We are delighted to celebrate this anniversary with Qatar Airways. The airline gives passengers from our region a great product and an extensive route network in the Gulf and beyond.”

In addition to its existing network of over 150 destinations worldwide, Qatar Airways is due to launch a range of new destinations in 2017 and 2018 which broaden the choices available to travellers from the Midlands. These include Auckland, New Zealand, Canberra in Australia, Chiang Mai in Thailand, Yanbu and Tabuk in Saudi Arabia, Medan in Indonesia, and Libreville in Gabon.

On board the Boeing 787, Qatar Airways’ passengers have a choice of 22 seats in Business Class and 232 Economy Class seats. All seats include individual television screens, with Economy Class customers benefitting from a screen 10.6-inches wide, offering the latest inflight entertainment with up to 2,000 options while experiencing the airline’s award-winning service.

Every seat is an aisle seat in Business Class where passengers can catch up on sleep in a fully-flat bed or make productive use of their time utilising the large work surface area. Passengers can also stay connected while travelling with the option of Wi-Fi which is available throughout the aircraft.
