easyJet has celebrated carrying more than 10 million passengers to and from Birmingham Airport (BHX)
The milestone reflects nearly two decades of growth since easyJet launched services from Birmingham in 2007, operating its first flights to Geneva. The airline significantly strengthened its commitment to the region in 2024 with the launch of its Birmingham base, supporting local jobs, expanding passenger choice and creating new opportunities for network growth.
Since opening the base, easyJet has more than tripled its Birmingham network and now serves 45 destinations across Europe and North Africa. This summer, the airline is operating its largest-ever Birmingham programme, supported by six based aircraft and continued investment in routes and holidays from the region.
The growth highlights the strength of Birmingham Airport's catchment, which serves millions of passengers across the Midlands and beyond, providing airlines with access to a large and diverse market spanning business, leisure and visiting friends and relatives (VFR) travel. Combined with available runway and terminal capacity, Birmingham Airport continues to provide airlines with opportunities to grow without the congestion and slot constraints experienced elsewhere in the UK.
easyJet's continued expansion has also strengthened holiday choice for customers. easyJet holidays launched from Birmingham alongside the airline's base opening in 2024 and now offers thousands of package holidays to destinations across Europe and North Africa. Customers will also be able to enjoy a new route and package holidays to Copenhagen this winter.
Kevin Doyle, easyJet's UK Country Manager, said:
“This is a fantastic milestone for easyJet as we celebrate carrying over ten million passengers from Birmingham Airport, where we continue going from strength to strength. We have more than tripled the size of our network at Birmingham in the past two years and doubled the number of aircraft we base at the airport, supporting jobs and connectivity for the region,
“We focused on offering great value fares and more choice for our customers in the Midlands, and we can’t wait to welcome even more passengers onboard for what will be our biggest ever summer in Birmingham.”
Matt Hazelwood, Chief Commercial Officer of Birmingham Airport, said:
“We’re delighted to celebrate easyJet’s 10 millionth passenger at Birmingham Airport. Since launching services here in 2007, easyJet has steadily grown its operation and is now one of our major airline partners. We look forward to welcoming even more easyJet customers in the years ahead.”
