Birmingham Airport (BHX) has announced a new direct service to Toronto with Air Transat, strengthening transatlantic connectivity.

From Wednesday 23rd June 2027, Air Transat will operate twice-weekly non-stop flights between Birmingham Airport and Toronto Pearson International Airport (YYZ), establishing a new direct connection between the Midlands and Canada's largest city.

Operating on Wednesdays and Saturdays until 23rd October 2027, the seasonal service will be operated by Air Transat's Airbus A321LR aircraft, providing passengers with a convenient alternative to travelling via other UK airports or international connecting hubs.

The announcement reflects the strength of Birmingham Airport's catchment and the growing demand for international connectivity across the Midlands. Serving one of the UK's largest and most diverse regional markets, BHX benefits from year-round demand across business, leisure, and VFR travel, providing a strong foundation for new international services.

In 2025, approximately 10,000 passengers travelled indirectly between Birmingham and Toronto, demonstrating existing demand for the route. This is supported by established family connections, student mobility, working-holiday programmes, and corporate travel between the UK and Canada.

The new service also strengthens connections between two important economic regions, supporting opportunities for business travel, international trade, tourism, and inward investment. With the West Midlands home to a significant regional economy and a high concentration of international businesses, improved access to North America represents an important addition to Birmingham Airport's growing international network.

Beyond Toronto, the new service will provide onward connections through Air Transat's partnership with Porter Airlines, opening up access to destinations including Vancouver, Montréal, Calgary, and Edmonton. These connections will give passengers across the Midlands greater choice when travelling throughout Canada, whether for business, leisure, or visiting friends and relatives.

Matt Hazelwood, Chief Commercial Officer at Birmingham Airport, said, “We are thrilled to be adding this new route from Birmingham Airport with Air Transat. Toronto is a destination people across the region have every reason to be excited about, and the fact they’ll be able to fly there directly from their local airport is something worth celebrating. We’re really proud to be making this happen and cannot wait for the first flight to take off next summer.”

“The launch of our new Birmingham–Toronto service reflects Air Transat’s commitment to making Canada more accessible from key regions across the UK,” said Sebastian Ponce, Chief Revenue Officer at Transat. “Travellers across the Midlands will benefit from a convenient non-stop flight to Toronto, together with onward connections to major destinations across Canada through our partnership with Porter Airlines. Birmingham is a natural addition to our UK network, and we look forward to welcoming our first passengers in June 2027."

The announcement builds on Birmingham Airport's continued international network development, following a record 13.7+ million passengers in 2025, and reinforces its position as a strategically important UK gateway capable of supporting new long-haul services and strengthening global connectivity.

With continued investment in infrastructure, available capacity for airline growth, and access to one of the UK's largest regional catchments, Birmingham Airport remains focused on attracting new airline partners and expanding direct connections to key international markets.
