04.12.2008 Norwegian expands its CPH base

When the summer programme comes into force in the spring, Norwegian will expand its base at CPH by 11 new routes, bringing the Norwegian low-cost carrier’s Danish routes to a total of 18. The new destinations include Pisa, Split, Krakow, and Heraklion on the Greek island of Crete, all of which are currently not served out of Copenhagen. Copenhagen Airport welcomes the new initiative.

Norwegian opened a new base at Copenhagen on 29 October and announced the start-up of a number of new routes, which will all be in operation by the turn of the year. An additional 12 routes out of Denmark will now be added, 11 of which will be out of CPH.

"The first Danish routes have been very well received, and we are therefore very pleased to announce the opening of an additional 12 routes in the new year. As the largest low-cost carrier in Denmark with 18 routes, we look forward to flying Danes on holiday in 2009," said Norwegian's CEO, Bjørn Kjos.

New destinations
Copenhagen Airport is also very pleased with the expansion of Norwegian's route network - not least because the programme includes four routes that have not been served out of Copenhagen before.

"As everybody knows, we have been working hard to close the gap after Sterling's bankruptcy, and we were therefore pleased to present 159 new weekly frequencies out of CPH in the first two weeks after the bankruptcy. In particular, we are pleased that Norwegian will fly to attractive new destinations such as Pisa, Split, Krakow and Heraklion," said Carsten Nørland, Aviation Director at Copenhagen Airports A/S.

A broad range of destinations
In addition to the four destinations mentioned above, Norwegian will open services from Copenhagen to Amsterdam, Budapest, Edinburgh, Faro, Paris/Orly, Palma Mallorca and Prague. Norwegian has not yet announced the number of frequencies on the new destinations.
