More Than 7,200 Take-Offs and Landings Recorded by Malta International Airport in August

More than 7,200 take-offs and landings made for an exceptionally busy August at Malta International Airport, with aircraft movements peaking on three separate days during the month.

Aircraft movements experienced a 12.4 per cent increase over the same month in 2025, while seat capacity registered growth of 15.2 per cent. Despite this strong growth rate in the number of seats available, at 89.3 per cent, the seat load factor (SLF) for August was an indicator of strong demand.

Italy was the top driver of passenger traffic for the second consecutive month, with a market share of 20.6 per cent. Rome Fiumicino Airport was not only the preferred airport among passengers travelling to and from Italy in August, but was also the most popular airport out of more than 120 destinations in Malta International Airport’s network.

The United Kingdom (+10.0 per cent) and Poland (+49.6 per cent) both registered double-digit growth, ranking second and third, respectively. On the other hand, Germany saw a decline of 4.8 per cent in passenger numbers and ranked fourth, while France registered a decrease of 10.8 per cent.

During the month, more than 1.2 million passengers travelled through Malta International Airport, representing year-on-year growth of 12.3 per cent.
