Brand New Aircraft Unveiled at Aberdeen Airport

Norwegian airline Wideroe unveiled their brand new aircraft today at Aberdeen International Airport. The airline is the first in aviation history to use the E190-E2 aircraft on commercial flights. The second-generation Embraer jet took its first flight carrying passengers today; departing from Aberdeen just after 2pm. The chartered flight took 78 selected VIP passengers, including Wideroe CEO Stein Nilsen and Embraer Commercial Aviation CEO John Slattery, on to further celebrations in Bergen.

Prior to departing the first passengers enjoyed an exclusive reception in the Northern Lights Executive Lounge where they were able to enjoy local whiskies and cuisine; all with spectacular views of the new aircraft. Airport Terminal Safety Officer and local piper, Karen Bain, piped the first passengers onto the aircraft sending them off in true Scottish style.

Carol Benzie, Managing Director of Aberdeen International Airport said: ‘We were honoured that Wideroe chose to host this historic event at Aberdeen. It was fantastic to be able to share this exciting day with the airline and Embraer and we look forward to seeing this revolutionary new aircraft in the skies.’

The E190-E2 aircraft seats 114 passengers and has been hailed as the next generation of environmentally friendly aircraft. The E2 will take its first public scheduled flight on April 24th from Bergen – Tromso.
