Thank you for nominating us AGAIN!

After winning the World Routes Award 2017 in the under 4 Million Passengers category, we set a new passenger record and now, thanks to you, we find ourselves nominated for the 4-20 Million Passengers category as well.

“To go up a category and be nominated again is a sign that we’re punching above our weight”, says Christian Kaeser, Head of Aviation Marketing & Business Development “I’m quite humbled by the support and would like to thank everyone who voted for us”.

Over the past three years we have changed our approach of airline marketing significantly. After breaking the 4 million mark in 2017, we fine-tuned our strategy to prioritise promoting the benefits of market sustainability through diversification, improved connectivity and continued growth for you, our airline partners, through increased yield.

The key to our success is understanding the positions of airlines and the needs of network planners. We have redefined the role of an airport marketing team and our B2B customers refer to us as “route consultants”. Understanding our own position provides an excellent basis for conceiving new, blue ocean routes that appeal to the relevant airlines.

These measures have achieved what any marketing team should ultimately be judged by: concrete results. Firstly, there is solid evidence that both our partners and our end-customers are satisfied. Secondly, the airport is achieving the growth we targeted:

  • All-time high of over 4.2 million passengers in 2017
  • Germany’s fastest-growing airport in 2017 (>1 Million Passengers category)
  • 7 new airlines in 2017
  • 7 new aircraft based at NUE over the past years
  • All-time high of 68 nonstop destinations in 2018
  • 9 new destinations in 2018
  • Sustained growth over the last 3 years

The cornerstone of this success is our radical “Blue Ocean” strategy, which we launched with the slogan “Avoid the shark tank and make use of your blue ocean opportunities!” almost three years ago at the World Routes Conference in Durban in September 2015.
