NUEw year's resolution for 2024: Connectivity improvement into the hubs

Connectivity at NUE S19 vs S24

Connectivity from NUE to the hubs has decreased over the past year and will continue to do so in S24. Current forecasts indicate that capacity in the full-service segment will then be reduced by almost 50% compared to 2019. NUE, as the gateway to the world for northern Bavaria, is therefore aiming at improving this situation.

Looking back at 2019 and comparing with the coming summer 2024, it is evident that the full-service carrier segment at NUE has undergone a substantial change. Even though the recovery of business demand has been slow in Germany, the capacity in the segment has been reduced over proportionally by 47%.

A former market-dominating Star Alliance presence has been reduced to a now equal presence of Star Alliance carriers vs Sky Team carriers and a gap by oneworld entirely. Especially with the switch to the W23/24 season when Austrian as well as SWISS left the market, the situation of FSC competition at NUE changed significantly. British Airways will suspend the connection to LHR and beyond for S24. Essentially, from pre-COVID times 33 daily departures to hubs, in S24, 15 daily departures to hubs are currently planned.

As the gateway to the world for our region, especially for business travellersincoming trade fair guestsmilitary staff as well as tourists on travels for leisure or VFR purposes, it is essential to stay connected. Improving this current connectivity situation is one of the main challenges that we are facing at the moment. For new airlines, but also for current airlines, there are many Blue Ocean Opportunities here in Nuremberg. Our strong catchment combined with a cost-effective environment is the perfect place to grow your business.
