Cathay Pacific Announces New Seattle-Hong Kong Service

July 18, 2018

Cathay Pacific, one of Asia’s best-known airlines, announced plans to debut nonstop service between Hong Kong and Seattle-Tacoma International Airport in April 2019. The Port of Seattle welcomed Cathay Pacific’s announcement, made Thursday morning in Hong Kong. Cathay Pacific will become the 10th new international airline to begin service at Sea-Tac Airport since 2016.

"We are thrilled to welcome Cathay Pacific, a well-known name that many of our travelers have wanted to see at Sea-Tac Airport," said Port of Seattle Commissioner Stephanie Bowman. "As the airport serving a dynamic and globally-savvy region, Sea-Tac Airport is proud to expand our international offerings.”

Sea-Tac Airport is one of the nation’s fastest-growing large hub airports and is the closest U.S. West Coast gateway to both Europe and Asia. Attracted to our region’s dynamic economy and inclusive values, international airlines continue expanding services at Sea-Tac and currently offer nonstop service to 27 international destinations.

To serve the fast-growing international demand, in August of 2017 Sea-Tac Airport broke ground on a new International Arrivals Facility. The new 450,000 square foot facility will significantly increase space to process arriving passengers, improve baggage pick up, speed transfers for connecting flights, and improve the overall arrival experience.

Cathay Pacific Chief Executive Officer Rupert Hogg said the Seattle route, which will be operated by the Airbus A350-900 aircraft, underscores the airline’s strategy to connect new destinations not otherwise served from Hong Kong – and to link its home, and one of the most innovative cities in Asia, with tech hubs the world over.

Mr. Hogg added, “We are very pleased to be introducing Seattle and to provide more convenience and choice to our customers. There are strong business, trade and cultural ties between Hong Kong and Seattle and we believe there will be considerable demand for both business and leisure travel on this new route."

Cathay Pacific is part of the oneworld alliance and offers codeshares with Alaska Airlines and many international providers.
