July has been the busiest month ever at Dublin Airport in 76 years

Dublin Airport had its busiest month ever in July, handling more than 2.9 million passengers – a 9% increase on the same month last year.

Passenger traffic to and from continental Europe increased by 8%, with over 1.6m people travelling.

Almost 900,000 passengers took flights to and from the UK, which was a 13% increase on the same month in 2015.

Transatlantic traffic was up 7% in July, with more than 343,000 people flying between Dublin and North America.

The latest figures show that almost 16 million passengers have used Dublin Airport during the first seven months of the year – a 12% increase.

There has also been a steep rise in the number of passengers using Dublin Airport as a hub to connect to another destination. In the period to the end of July, the airport handled more than 568,000 transfer passengers – a 19% rise.
