Bratislava Airport is the capital airport of Slovakia. In 2008 the airport handled 2 218 545 passengers.
78% of the traffic is scheduled, 70% of the total is served by low-cost airlines.
The estimated annual capacity of the airport is 3 million passengers providing sufficient reserve by at least 2010. To secure capacity for future growth, Bratislava Airport commenced a major reconstruction of its passenger terminal. The new building, due to be completed by 2012 will increase the annual capacity to at least 5 million passengers and will provide a peak hourly throughput of 1 500 passengers.
Bratislava Airport supports new airlines and increase of frequencies with an attractive incentive programme including volume discounts, new destination discounts and marketing support. The revised incentive scheme, reflecting the current downturn in the industry, will be available for 2009.
