Sibiu is located in the center of Romania (SE Europe) and in Southern Transylvania, and it is ranked among the most important cities in the country in terms of economic development (including constant inflows of foreign investors originating from Germany, Italy, Austria and USA).
Sibiu is the only city in Romania to receive three Michelin stars in 2011, recommended as a location to be visited, the city being included in the section Ideas for weekend and Essential tours of Romania.
Due to the fascinating history, medieval architecture and wild nature of its surroundings, Sibiu attracts annually more and more tourists. The city is close to the glacial lake Balea in the Fagaras Mountains, the ski resort Paltinis and the saline lakes resort Ocna Sibiului situated in the NE part of the city.
Sibiu is considered to be a major transport hub in Romania with its favorable position in the center of the country and connected to national and international infrastructure.
Sibiu International Airport is located in an excellent geoclimatical position and serves an area within 150 km with a total of 3 million inhabitants and 9 counties.
Sibiu International Airport's high level of passenger traffic, its modern technical equipment and performant base of operations ranks it among top regional airports in Romania. Since 2006, when the modernization process of the airport started, air traffic registered an unprecedented growth with the new status of the city "Sibiu - European Capital of Culture in 2007" and an important influx of foreign investments.
