Da Lat Has Been Named by a U.S. Magazine as One of the Most Stunning Sunrise Spots in the World
The American travel magazine National Geographic has selected Da Lat as one of the world’s most beautiful places to watch the sunrise. The highland city, with its rolling pine hills and mountain peaks, becomes a dreamlike sea of clouds at dawn.
In the feature, National Geographic describes the Highlands of Lam Vien as a place where “the dawn belongs to the clouds,” with fog-laden valleys and mountain tops rising like islands in a “white sea.”

According to the magazine, catching the clouds in Da Lat is almost ritualistic for nature lovers. Before sunrise, visitors climb to around 1,400m on hills—such as Da Phu, Thien Phuc Duc, or Ngo Quyen—to experience the moment when the chilly night air holds the mist near the forest floor, just before sunlight gradually dissolves the fog.
“Misty Da Lat is at its most beautiful in the crisp early morning—words can’t describe it, you have to feel it with all your senses,” says Đinh Văn Dôn, owner of Happy Day Travel, quoted in the article.

According to locals and photographers, the best spots to admire the sea of clouds and sunrise include Da Phu, Thien Phuc Duc, and Ngo Quyen, where thick mist lingers and first light unveils a dreamlike scene.
What began as a local pastime has evolved into one of Da Lat’s signature experiences. National Geographic calls the fleeting moment when mist and hills merge before dawn “a rare moment where the boundary between earth and sky almost vanishes.”
