Auckland Airport welcomes new air services negotiations

Auckland Airport welcomes new air services negotiations

Auckland Airport has praised the Government’s decision to negotiate new and improved air services agreements with countries in East Asia and South America.

Associate Transport Minister Nathan Guy announced today that Cabinet has given officials the mandate to start negotiations with China and Brazil, and up to eight additional countries.

Auckland Airport chief executive Simon Moutter said gaining better air connections to high-growth markets was essential for New Zealand, as the link between air services and economic growth was clear.

“This is why Auckland Airport has been so focused on growing air services, particularly from the booming Asian markets. We have also been laying the groundwork for improved air services with South America, given the potential for Auckland to become a key connecting point between Asia and the Americas,” Mr Moutter said.

“We are delighted the Government recognises that more liberal and flexible air services agreements will be vital as we continue our efforts to encourage more airlines to fly more often between Auckland and some of the world’s most dynamic growth economies.”
