Avianca Expands Connection Between Medellin and Aruba

Aruba Airport welcomes 4 weekly flights from Medellin, starting June 2024

ORANJESTAD - Aruba Airport proudly announces significant growth in its connection to Colombia with Avianca reintroducing its non-stop route from Medellin to Aruba.

The airline recently announced its plans to expand its service to Aruba by starting operations from Medellin, Colombia with four weekly flights commencing in June 2024. The flights are scheduled for Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays departing at 11:45 AM from Aruba and arriving at 12:25 PM in Medellin, Colombia.

The decision to enhance services reflects Avianca’s commitment to strengthening connectivity between Colombia, Latin America, and the Caribbean through Medellin. David Aleman, Sales Director of Avianca for Colombia and South America, emphasized Aruba’s status as a premier destination for Avianca, which currently operates six weekly flights from Bogota.

The Medellin to Aruba route has been operational for some time, with Wingo offering four weekly flights on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Saturdays. Avianca will utilize an Airbus A320 with 180 seats for the Medellin-Aruba route. This expansion is expected to increase seat capacity between the two destinations by 90% compared to 2023, with Medellin holding a 17% market share of all capacity from Latin America. Additionally, Medellin is evolving into a crucial connecting hub for Avianca, boasting over 20 domestic and international routes.

The increased frequency aims to offer passengers greater flexibility and options when planning their journeys, not only to Colombia but also to other sought-after destinations in South America. Jo-Anne Meaux-Arends, Aviation Business Development Executive, expressed, “As a primary goal for our airport, we are dedicated to growing and maintaining strategic connections and ensuring the long-term sustainability of our routes."
