CPH traffic: More people flying out into the world via Copenhagen Airport

September was a busy month at Copenhagen Airport. 2,791,961 passengers travelled through the terminals. The 8.1% growth in transfer traffic has been driven by the long-haul direct routes.

The number of transfer passengers is increasing again at Copenhagen Airport. During the first nine months of the year, a total of 2,216,059 passengers travelled via Copenhagen AIrport and out into the world, an increase of 1.3% on the same period last year.

September in particular saw many transfer passengers - 8.1% more than in the same month last year.

"If we take a look behind the figures, it's primarily the long-haul direct routes from Copenhagen to destinations outside Europe that are driving the growth in transfer traffic. To put it briefly, increasing numbers of people are flying from Northern Europe via Copenhagen and on to our many destinations in North America and Asia," CEO Thomas Woldbye explains.

SAS accounts for 80% of the transfer traffic at Copenhagen Airport, while airlines such as Norwegian, Air Canada and Air India are also helping to boost this year's growth in transfer traffic.

"It's crucial to our position as an international traffic hub in Northern Europe that we remain able to develop the long-haul routes, so that as many people as possible choose to head out into the world via Copenhagen rather than opting for alternatives such as Paris, London or Frankfurt," Thomas Woldbye emphasises.

Copenhagen Airport currently boasts 37 inter-continental routes, and a new route to Chengdu in China will open in December.

A total of 23,317,168 passengers travelled through the terminals in the first nine months of the year - up 3.7% on the same period in 2017.

September saw 2,791,961 passengers travel through the terminals - up 4.5% on the same month last year.

London retains its no. 1 ranking among the top 10 destinations. In September, a total of 189,593 passengers boarded flights to the UK capital, an increase of 2.9%. Malaga, on Spain's Costa del Sol, was the biggest climber of the month, with growth of 7.6%.
