Swift Growth

Carriers to Copenhagen’s new low-cost facility, CPH SWIFT, must meet 30-minute turnaround times. The airport also seeks to process six million additional annual passengers under one roof. Plus the gateway has also listed a host of new routings for this year.

Copenhagen Airport has taken a dual-strategy approach, focusing on the development of its hub and at the same time, attracting no-frills carriers to its new low-cost facility, CPH SWIFT, which is expected to become operational at the start of this year's winter schedule.

Plus, a new strategic partnership between Copenhagen and SAS has just been announced, which is expected to boost transfer passengers by more than 200,000 this year. It will also cut minimum connection time (MCT) from 40 to 30 minutes for passengers flying via Copenhagen to or from Stockholm, Gothenburg, Oslo, Bergen, Stavanger and Helsinki - in turn providing 43 additional connections each day. In the medium- to long-term, the aim is to achieve the same MCT for all flights from the Schengen countries.

The airport has reported positive passenger growth for two consecutive months - up 3.9% year-on-year in December and the opening of CPH Swift later this year (an investment of DKK200 million or €26.8 million) will secure a further 6 million passengers. The facility can also double in capacity where necessary.

In an additional bid to attract increased air services, the airport is offering a reduction in passenger charges and 100% self-service check-in facilities for passengers using the terminal.

At CPH overall, new routes to start this year include:
