Strong community backing for Dublin Airport growth confirmed by new independent research
New independent research conducted by Red C, a leading polling company, reveals overwhelming support among Fingal residents for the continued growth and development of Dublin Airport. The findings underscore Dublin Airport’s vital role in the local economy and its positive relationship with the surrounding community.
According to the research, 86% of Fingal residents support further development of Dublin Airport to allow it to grow, while 84% agree that having the airport in their community fuels economic development. The survey, based on 1,011 face-to-face interviews across the Fingal Electoral Area, also found that two in every three (66%) residents view Dublin Airport as a trustworthy neighbour.
Welcoming the results, Kenny Jacobs, CEO of daa, said: “It’s great to see such strong backing from the people who live in Fingal. While it can sometimes feel like the loudest voices are the most negative, this research shows that the vast majority of locals are actually behind us. They see the value the airport brings and want to see it grow. We’re proud of the connection we’ve built with our community, and we’ll keep working hard to make sure that relationship stays strong.”
The research highlights a disconnect between some public perceptions and the actual level of community support for the airport. It also reflects daa’s ongoing efforts to engage proactively with local residents and invest in meaningful community initiatives.
Recent examples include the launch of the €2 million Elevate '25 School Support Programme, which funds educational, environmental, and wellbeing projects in local schools, in addition to the €10 million Dublin Airport Community Fund which awards €500,000 to local clubs, groups and societies annually and the gifting of an eight-hectare rewilded habitat in Kilsallaghan to Fingal County Council for educational use.
Additionally, daa has received planning permission to enhance the beloved “Mound” viewing area near Old Airport Road. The new facility will offer a safe, accessible, and family-friendly space for the public to watch aircraft movements, complete with seating, solar-powered lighting, and dedicated parking.
Dublin Airport continues to be a major economic engine for the region, supporting over 116,000 jobs and contributing €9.6 billion in Gross Value Added (GVA) to the Irish economy annually.
