2.44 million people travelled through BER in August

Increased travel on the last holiday weekend
Almost 2.44 million people travelled through Berlin Brandenburg Airport during the summer holidays in August. That is around 52,000 more passengers than in August 2024, according to the preliminary figures in the traffic report.
A total of 16,817 aircraft took off and landed at BER last month. In August 2024, the figure was 16,520. A total of more than 4,983 tonnes of freight were handled at BER last month, around 920 tonnes more than in August 2024.
During the entire summer Berlin-Brandenburg holidays, around 3.73 million passengers used BER. That was around 130,000 passengers more than in the 2024 summer holidays. The busiest day of the holidays was last Friday, 5 September, with around 91,400 passengers returning from holiday or flying back home.
"Holiday operations at BER ran smoothly and well. The investments in our modern CT scanners and the early conversion of the security lanes in the north of Terminal 1 have paid off. Our passengers usually passed through security control in both terminals in less than ten minutes," says Aletta von Massenbach, Chief Executive Officer of Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg GmbH.
At the start of the holiday season, 20 security lanes in Terminals 1 and 2 had already been equipped with new CT scanners, with a further four lanes added in the penultimate week of the holidays. The deadline for completing the upgrade was originally set for autumn. Throughout the summer holidays, two-thirds of travellers at BER used a new security lane.
