Southwest Airlines announces new nonstop flights to Miami

More sun. More beach. More ways to get to South Florida.

Southwest Airlines today announced a new nonstop route from Tampa to Miami, increasing service between TPA and Florida's largest airport. The route will offer service three times daily to the South Florida city and is scheduled to launch November 15.

Upon its launch, Southwest will be the second airline at Tampa International Airport to offer daily nonstop flights to Miami next to American Airlines.

Delta Air Lines also announced service to the city this past January, partnering with LATAM to provide easier connections to Latin America, but soon pushed the service back due to international travel restrictions in place during the COVID-19 pandemic. Delta's TPA to Miami service is currently scheduled to begin in December.

The service aboard Southwest -- TPA's most popular carrier -- will compliment its current nonstop route to Fort Lauderdale, offering passengers more options to get to Florida's southeast.

“We’re investing in the Sunshine State with additional flying to South Florida so that our Tampa Bay Customers can easily travel to the Miami-Dade area for business and personal travel, just as they currently can to Broward County via our flights to Fort Lauderdale,” said Steve Goldberg, Southwest Airlines Senior Vice President of Operations & Hospitality. “This time-saving, nonstop service offers more of Southwest’s value and hospitality, which we’ve proudly offered in Tampa Bay since 1996.”

The flight will get passengers from Tampa to Miami in one hour flat, door to door, and will increase access for those using Tampa as a connection.

"Southwest Airlines has been a great partner and has always shown strong support for our Tampa Bay market," said Chris Minner, Executive Vice President of Marketing and Air Service Development. "This service provides both great options for Tampa Bay residents traveling to South Florida as well as Southwest passengers connecting through Tampa from other destinations."
