Spirit Adding 4 New Routes at TPA and Seasonally Resuming 7 Others

Spirit recently announced significant growth at TPA for this winter

The ULCC will fly 21 nonstop routes from Tampa this winter

Spirit Airlines is adding new nonstop service from Tampa International Airport to four cities this fall and resuming routes to seven other seasonal destinations -- including two that had previously been discontinued.

On October 5, the ultra-low-cost carrier will begin daily year-round nonstop service to Charlotte, while Spirit will serve Norfolk, Richmond and Charleston, S.C., four times per week as seasonal routes starting November 15.

It will be the first time Spirit has flown nonstop between TPA and those four cities.

Daily flights to Boston, Dallas-Fort Worth and Indianapolis are scheduled to resume October 5, while daily flights to George Bush Intercontinental Airport in Houston, Philadelphia and Pittsburgh start November 15. Flights to Columbus, Ohio, will be four times per week starting November 15. PHL and CMH had been discontinued in the past.

“Our friends at Spirit recently celebrated their 30th anniversary at TPA with us, and we’re thrilled to see this ultra-low-cost carrier now adding so many great destinations,” Tampa International Airport CEO Joe Lopano said. “We look forward to their continued growth and success here in Tampa Bay, as we know these new and resuming routes will be popular with our travelers.”

When all the additional routes are in place by November 15, Spirit will serve at least 21 cities from TPA. That would make it the airline with the second-highest number of nonstop destinations to and from Tampa after Southwest Airlines, which is scheduled to fly to 38 airports in November.

“Our Tampa guests have embraced Spirit’s low-fare, high-value service over the last three decades, allowing us to grow and bring More Go to incredible destinations, including these four new flights and other resuming routes,” said John Kirby, Vice President of Network Planning at Spirit Airlines. “It also makes it easier for our guests across the network to visit the heart of Florida’s Gulf Coast and enjoy its culture and popular attractions.”
