Sundair launches Swedish operations with a Stockholm Arlanda direct route to Beirut

The German carrier Sundair is starting operations from the Swedish market for the first-time by launching a new non-stop service to the Lebanese capital from Stockholm Arlanda Airport.

The service was launched 11 December with Sundair operating the Stockholm Arlanda (ARN) – Beirut Rafic Hariri International Airport (BEY) route once weekly with an A320 model aircraft. Sundair is at this point the sole carrier to provide the direct service to the Libanes capital from Stockholm.

“We evidently are very happy to welcome Sundair to Stockholm Arlanda Airport at these challenging times and for Sundair to seize one of many long-term growth opportunities in the Swedish market. The Stockholm Arlanda-Beirut route was highly successful prior to the pandemic owing to the large population with a Middle East background in Sweden and the Stockholm region in particular” says Elizabeth Axtelius, Director of Aviation Business at Swedavia. “When the world reopens and travel restrictions ease, meeting physically and visiting friends and family again will be important to us all.”

“We are already very experienced with flights to Beirut, which is a destination we are serving from Berlin and Düsseldorf. Stockholm, with its large Lebanese and also Syrian population, was the next logical step for us to expand” says Marcos Rossello, CEO at Sundair.

Both Swedish and EU authorities currently advise against all non-essential travel and to ensure that people who are still planning to travel feel safe, Swedavia has taken a number of measures to limit and prevent the spread of disease at its airports.

Along with the Public Health Agency of Sweden’s recommendations Swedavia comply with international regulations for the aviation industry. Swedavia also works actively to promote the industry’s transition to biofuel and has the goal that five per cent of all fuel used to refuel aircraft at Swedish airports shall be fossil-free by 2025.
