Norwegian returning to Sweden and Stockholm Arlanda with three direct routes
Norwegian Air Shuttle (Norwegian) is back at Stockholm Arlanda after nearly a five-month pause during the pandemic. Over the Easter holidays, Norwegian quietly started operations, launching non-stop service to Alicante, Malaga and Oslo, all with two weekly departures.
The carrier plans to gradually increase the number of departures and resume more service in Sweden as demand increases and travel restrictions ease. Based on how the market develops in Sweden and elsewhere in the world and given new or changed restrictions or something else that affects people’s possibility to travel, there could be a need to adjust its route network again.
Norwegian was one of Swedavia’s biggest customers before the pandemic and one of the airlines that provided good access both domestically and internationally.
“Naturally, it is really good news that Norwegian, one of our biggest customers before the pandemic, has returned to Sweden and is providing service at our airport. This currently involves weekend service and three new routes from Stockholm Arlanda, but Norwegian plays an important part in the range of flights available at all of our airports,” says Elizabeth Axtelius, Director Aviation Business at Swedavia. “We look forward to them expanding their route network when the situation eases, and the world and our passengers are ready to travel again. We are cautiously optimistic about the summer, but there is great uncertainty at present about the market trend, with the vaccination rollout, pandemic and travel restrictions being critical to the recovery in Sweden and the rest of the world.”
The direct route Stockholm Arlanda Airport (ARN) – Alicante International Airport (ALC) started up on April 2, and Norwegian will operate the route twice weekly on Fridays and Saturdays. Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) also currently serves this route.
The direct route Stockholm Arlanda Airport (ARN) – Málaga Airport (AGP) started up on April 3, and Norwegian will operate the route twice weekly on Saturdays and Sundays. SAS also currently serves this route.
The direct route Stockholm Arlanda Airport (ARN) – Oslo Gardermoen Airport (OSL) started up on April 3, and Norwegian will operate the route twice weekly on Saturdays and Sundays. Air Leap and SAS also currently serve this route.
