The Italian regional carrier will introduce twice-weekly flights to the Dolomites, adding a third route from Groningen Airport Eelde for the summer 2027 season.
SkyAlps will introduce a new seasonal route between Groningen Airport Eelde and Bolzano on 26 April 2027, becoming the only airline to offer direct flights between the Netherlands and the South Tyrolean destination.
The service will operate twice weekly on Mondays and Thursdays until early September, using the Italian regional carrier's 76-seat Dash 8-400 aircraft.
A direct gateway to the Dolomites
Situated in northern Italy, Bolzano offers access to the UNESCO-listed Dolomites, a region renowned for its spectacular mountain scenery, outdoor activities and distinctive blend of Italian and Austrian culture.
The exclusive Dutch connection gives Groningen Airport Eelde a distinctive position in the leisure market, providing direct access to a destination otherwise reached primarily through larger airports.
"The Dolomites are among Europe's most beautiful mountain regions, offering visitors an exceptional combination of nature, relaxation and culture," said Jonas van Dorp, Commercial Manager at Groningen Airport Eelde.
SkyAlps expands Groningen operations
Bolzano will become SkyAlps' third destination from Groningen in summer 2027, alongside Knock and Kerry in Ireland, both operated on behalf of Dutch tour operator BBI Travel.
The expansion reflects a growing partnership between the airline and the regional airport, with SkyAlps identifying increasing demand for its South Tyrolean home market among Dutch travellers.
Diversifying the route network
The new Bolzano service adds to Groningen Airport Eelde's growing portfolio of distinctive leisure destinations, alongside Scandinavian Mountains Airport, Guernsey, Knock and Kerry.
While continuing to develop these niche leisure connections, the airport is also pursuing opportunities in larger European markets, including London, Copenhagen and popular Spanish destinations, as part of its broader strategy to strengthen connectivity across the Northern Netherlands.
