NUE ensures safety of passengers and is the first airport in Germany to receive the DEKRA certificate

Nuremberg Airport is the first German airport to receive the “DEKRA Trusted Facility” certificate for infrastructures well equipped to minimise the spread of COVID-19. NUE has decided to complete this process to ensure that the pandemic-related risks for employees and customers are minimised and to be a trustworthy partner for when traffic takes up again.

The world's largest non-listed testing company DEKRA has developed an auditing concept for low-risk tourism and travel in Corona times. The concept includes on-site continuous auditing of hygiene standards and preventive measures. The criteria are based on WHO guidelines. At the Albrecht Dürer Airport Nürnberg, the criteria assessed included routing and information for passengers, spacing rules, ventilation in passenger areas, and disinfection and cleaning measures. All passenger areas were included: check-in, security control, waiting rooms, gates, baggage reclaim and stores.

"DEKRA offers comprehensive concepts worldwide for safe living in the Corona pandemic. To this end, we are pooling our expertise in process audits, product testing and occupational health and safety," says Frank Barenscheer, authorized signatory and member of the management board of DEKRA Certification GmbH. "A key issue these days is the safety of millions of holidaymakers, who we want to protect with a standard that is recognised throughout Europe."

"Safety is always our top priority. The certificate is confirmation of our commitment to ensuring that passengers, visitors and employees can rely on compliance with hygiene standards, even and especially in these times, and will hopefully soon be able to enjoy relaxed travel again," said airport CEO Dr. Michael Hupe.

The airport is also equipped with several coronavirus testing stations: one outside the airport which tests for the virus via PCR-testing and one within the airport which offers quick tests ahead of departure.
