Travel Guidance

We are regularly monitoring travel guidance for delegates attending Routes World, including the introduction of the European Travel Information and Authorization System (ETIAS) which is planned for later in 2026.

Our travel team has provided information and answers to common queries below.

Do I need a visa to travel into Germany?

As of April 2026, the current advice is EU and Schengen citizens can travel without a visa for up to 90 days in any 180-day period. This applies for travel to business meetings and conferences. Other visa-exempt countries include the United States, Canada and Australia for stays of up to 90 days in any 180 day period.

Non-exempt countries include India, China and Russia who will have to apply for a Schengen visa. You can request a visa from the German Embassy or Consulate in your country of residence and it will generally be issued after 90 days. View all countries that require a visa to enter Germany.

For countries outside of the EU and Schengen Area, please check with your local embassy for any additional German government’s entry requirements.

Can I request a Visa Support Letter?

If you do require a visa support letter, please fill out our visa support letter form. To apply for a visa support letter, you must be registered to attend Routes World 2026 before the request is made. Please be aware that you can expect to receive the letter within 3-5 working days from your request.

Please request your visa letter here.

If you have any questions on entry requirements or travel to Germany please email routestravelteam@informa.com. For any registration or visa letter enquiries please contact routeseventregistration@informa.com.

Does my passport meet validity requirements?

Germany follows Schengen area rules. Your passport must:

  • have a ‘date of issue’ less than 10 years before the date you arrive
  • have an ‘expiry date’ at least 3 months after the day you plan to leave the Schengen area

Check with your travel provider that your passport and other travel documents meet requirements. You will be denied entry if you do not have a valid travel document or try to use a passport that has been reported lost or stolen.

For all Routes World 2026 delegates, at German border control you may need to show:

  • a return or onward ticket
  • proof of your travel insurance
  • you have enough money for your stay - the amount varies depending on your accommodation
  • a hotel booking confirmation or proof of address if you’re staying at your own property
