Passenger numbers have surpassed 2017 total: 33,326,000 … and 1 passengers in Berlin

Growth at the Berlin airports has picked up again. The number of passengers in 2017 has already been exceeded. Regine Eppmann-Petrasch is the anniversary passenger and the 33,326,001th passenger at Berlin’s airports this year. This morning she flew with Germania from Berlin Schönefeld to Gran Canaria, accompanied by her husband Klaus-Dieter Petrasch. To celebrate this anniversary, Germania is giving Mrs Eppmann-Petrasch a return flight to use from Berlin on any route in the Germania network.

Prof. Dr.-Ing. Engelbert Lütke Daldrup, Chief Executive Officer of Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg GmbH:
"Passenger numbers have not only stabilised but are also increasing substantially. The commitment of numerous airlines, including Germania, has made a significant contribution to this. We expect to reach almost 35 million passengers by the end of the year.

With our experienced employees in Tegel and Schönefeld, we will also be able to cope with the increasing number of passengers up until BER opens. We are making targeted investments in the two airports in order to prepare them for the high volume of traffic. The processes and services will be improved through numerous measures."

Vicky Kramer, Director of Marketing of Germania Fluggesellschaft mbH:
"We would like to congratulate Berlin’s airports on their passenger record. Following a competitor’s exit from the market last year, Germania seized the opportunity faster than other airlines and returned to Tegel. We are planning a further expansion of our activities in the capital. We are offering attractive destinations from Tegel and Schönefeld until BER goes into operation in October 2020. In the summer of 2019, Germania will be operating a total of 35 routes from Berlin, 24 from Tegel and eleven from Schönefeld."
