BER Runway popular with passengers

In the fast lane to security control: BER Runway lets passengers reserve a time slot for extra access to security control. The service has already been booked online one million times since its launch last August. The airport company recommends using this free access to make it easier to plan your trip, especially for the upcoming holiday season.

Thomas Hoff Anderson, Chief Operations Officer, Flughafen Berlin Brandenburg GmbH: “BER Runway is extremely popular with our passengers. I’m delighted that the service has been so well received. We were the first airport in Germany to launch BER Runway last August and we are continuously improving the product. It’s becoming easier and easier to get to the gate with our digital services: first use self-check-in, then take BER Runway to security control. This is how to start your holiday in a relaxed way.”

Passengers can reserve a free time slot online via BER Runway before departure for separate access to security control. It can be booked from 7 days before departure. The reservation is automatically linked to the passenger’s boarding pass and recognised at boarding pass control. Capacity during the holidays will be increased again to 8,000 time slots per day.

How BER Runway works:

  • The entrances to BER Runway are located in Terminal 1 at security control 4 and are signposted.
  • Passengers can make a reservation for BER Runway on the airport’s website and in the BER app from seven days to one hour before the respective departure for Schengen flights to one-and-a-half-hours before departure for non-Schengen flights and departures from T2. Slots are offered during a time frame of 60 to 360 minutes before departure. The flight number, name of all passengers and an email address must be provided when booking a time slot.
  • A time slot can be selected at a fixed time every 15 minutes. The entrance can be used from 10 minutes before or 10 minutes after the selected time. Before entering, the boarding pass is checked and the reservation is automatically recognised.
  • The airport company also recommends that all passengers arrive at their respective terminal 2.5 hours before departure. However, with BER Runway the time required can be reduced and the stay at the airport better calculated. Passengers should note that they should plan enough for time for checking in and dropping off their baggage before entering BER Runway. Self-check-in options should be used.
  • All Runway passengers can also use the general entrances to the security control despite having a reservation. Passengers are then asked to cancel their reservation.
  • Example: Departure is Friday at 10 am. The time slot for BER Runway can then be reserved from the previous Friday at 10 am until that Friday at 9 am (Schengen flight) or 8:30 am (non-Schengen flight or departure from T2). An 8:15 am time slot means access to BER Runway is then possible from 8:05 am to 8:25 am on the day of departure.
