Sichuan Airlines to inaugurate Chengdu – Athens in Summer 2025
Athens network in Asia and China in specific is further enriched with the addition of the Chengdu route, operated by Sichuan Airlines
In a spectacular ceremony on April 25th, 2025, Chengdu Tianfu International Airport unveiled the international routes that will be launched soon and will be connecting this amazing Southwestern China aviation hub with a range of international destinations... and yes, you have guessed right !!! Athens is one of them! Athens will be connected to Chengdu as of this Summer! Sichuan Airlines is getting ready and at Athens International Airport we can't wait to welcome our new airline partner and the new connection, aiming at strengthening our links and continuing to build bridges of friendship, culture, trade, tourism and cooperation between China and Greece!!! All the more, since Sichuan Province and Attica Region have already in place a twinning agreement to broaden, deepen and strengthen cooperation between the two regions!
Sichuan Airlines will inaugurate the route in Summer 2025, offering 4 weekly frequencies , in the beginning operating via Istanbul from Chengdu Tianfu to Athens. The airline will operate the route with its state of the art A350-900 equipment. With this latest addition, Athens International Airport will be connected to 4 destinations in Asia, 3 out of these 4 destinations being in China. In specific, this new 4 weekly service will supplement the 4 weekly frequencies by Air China to Beijing and the 4 weekly by Juneyao to Shanghai. In addition, Scoot continues the successful Singapore-Athens route.
Passenger traffic between China and Athens is thriving, following a record year in 2024 with 117 thousand round-trip PAX travelling directly, a 90% growth to 2019, with the first 3 months of 2025 demonstrating a strong increase of 119% to the same period in 2024.
