Athens airport makes big leap in Europe’s air connectivity & generates significant economic benefits for the Greek economy

At a joint press conference by ACI EUROPE and Athens International Airport, held in the framework of the 35th ACI EUROPE Annual Congress & General Assembly, two major studies were presented — highlighting Athens International Airport dynamic role in European aviation and its significant contribution to the national economy:
ACI EUROPE’s 2025 Airport Industry Connectivity Report, presented by Olivier Jankovec – Director General ACI EUROPE:
Athens achieved a +33% increase in total connectivity vs. 2019, the highest among major EU airports, placing Athens in the top 10 EU hubs for aircraft movements.

The Foundation for Economic and Industrial Research (IOBE’s), updated study on Athens International Airport economic footprint, presented by Nikos Vettas – General Director of (IOBE):
Athens International Airport directly and indirectly supports 3.8% of Greece’s GDP with €8.6bn, sustains 214,000 jobs (4.2% of national employment) and contributes €2.7bn in public revenue.
