A September to Remember!!! Strong traffic growth at Athens continues in September 2025!!!
Towards a new Record year as PAX traffic grew by 6.7% during the first 9 months of 2025, with flights increasing by 5.6%
Strong growth in PAX traffic also recorded in September with 179.6 thousand additional PAX to the same month last year, or a growth of 5.4%. International traffic was the main driver of growth with 6.6% increase to September 2024, while Domestic traffic improved by 2.6%. In absolute numbers, September recorded slightly more PAX than June. However, this was the opposite in 2024 as September 2024 was slightly below June 2024. Possibly, this can be an indication that peak is shifting towards the 2nd half of Q3.
In terms of Direct traffic, US market is the TOP winner in growth among the TOP20 International markets with 28% to September 2024. Denmark is 2nd with 27.3% growth, followed by Albania 27.1%, Poland in the 4th place with 16.3% growth and the Netherlands in 5th with 12.5% growth. Italy remains the largest International market for Athens in September with over 226 thousand round-trip PAX.
In terms of O&D traffic (IATA AirportIS), Hungary recorded the strongest growth among the TOP20 International markets with 34.2% growth, followed by Cyprus with 24.7%, Denmark with 21.1%, Israel with 17.8% and USA in the 5th place with 14.6%, however US remains Athens largest International market in O&D traffic. Australia is the largest Unserved country market for Athens in September 2025, in the 15th position, recording a growth of 11.5% to September 2024. Even connecting via Athens O&D traffic grew by 5.7% in September 2025 versus September 2024.
So, it is true! “September tries its best to have us forget Summer”
