2025, It’s a wrap! for Athens
What a fascinating year!!!!
As 2025 is coming to an end and season holidays are just around the corner, it is a good time to review what happened to Athens network in 2025.
This year, Athens welcomed a total of 31 Route Developments, including 18 New Destinations and 13 Additional New Services on existing routes, with 5 New Airlines joining Athens network.
New Destinations
- Alicante, inaugurated by easyJet, the airline is the sole operator on the route
- Baku, inaugurated by Aegean, the airline is the sole operator on the route
- Baneasa (Bucharest), inaugurated by WizzAir, the airline is the sole operator on the route
- Benghazi, inaugurated by MedSky, the airline is a NEW airline for Athens and the sole operator on the route
- Bratislava, inaugurated by Ryanair and WizzAir
- Charlotte, inaugurated by American Airlines, adding the 8th direct route to the US with American Airlines the sole operator on the route
- Chengdu, inaugurated by Sichuan Airlines, operating via Istanbul, adding the 3rd direct route to China, the airline is a NEW airline for Athens and the sole operator on the route
- Craiova, inaugurated by WizzAir, the airline is the sole operator on the route
- Eilat, inaugurated by Israir, operating during the Winter season
- Erbil, inaugurated by Aegean, the airline is the sole operator on the route
- Haifa, inaugurated by Air Haifa, the airline is a NEW airline for Athens and the sole operator on the route
- Las Palmas, inaugurated by Aegean, operating during the Winter season
- Los Angeles, inaugurated by Norse Atlantic, adding the 9th direct route to the US with Norse the sole operator
- Luxor, inaugurated by Aegean, adding the 3rd destination to Egypt, the airline is the sole operator on the route
- Modlin, inaugurated by Ryanair and WizzAir
- Sharm El Sheikh, inaugurated by Aegean, adding the 4th destination to Egypt, the airline is the sole operator on the route
- Baghdad, inaugurated by Aegean, adding the 2nd destination to Iraq. Up until 2025, Athens had NO direct connections to Iraq and in 2025, the airport added 2 direct routes. Aegean is the sole operator on the route
- Tripoli, inaugurated by MedSky, the airline is a NEW airline for Athens and the sole operator on the route
Additional New Services
- Tel Aviv, Sky Express added services, with the airline supplementing Israir, Aegean, Bluebird, Arkia, El-Al and WizzAir services between Tel-Aviv and Athens. Tel-Aviv is the route with the biggest number of airlines operating, making Sky Express the 7th airline offering services.
- Berlin, Sky Express added services, with the airline supplementing Aegean, Ryanair and Scoot services
- Hamburg, Sky Express added services, with the airline supplementing Aegean services
- Lisbon, Sky Express added services, with the airline supplementing Aegean and easyJet services
- Madrid, Sky Express added services, with the airline supplementing Aegean, Iberia and Air Europa services
- Lyon, Sky Express added services, with the airline supplementing Aegean, easyJet, Transavia France and Volotea services
- Chisinau, SkyUp added services, the airline is a NEW airline for Athens and supplemented Aegean and WizzAir services
