Summer departures underway at Bergen Airport – several days of very high traffic

– Summer is the big travel season of the year, and we look forward to welcoming everyone who is going on holiday. We have prepared well and are ready for a busy and exciting period, says Helge Eidsnes, Airport Director at Bergen Airport.

Throughout the summer there will be consistently high pressure at the airport, and most days this summer have between 20,000 and 26,000 travelers per day.

Certain days stand out in particular: Sunday July 19 with over 26,000 travelers , Sunday July 26 with around 25,700 travelers , and Sunday July 5 with over 25,300 travelers among the busiest.

– We see that the peaks often come around weekends, especially on Sundays. At the same time, traffic is high throughout the period, so it is important to come prepared no matter what day you are traveling, says Eidsnes.

Foreign travel dominates the summer

The summer is characterized by high demand for international travel from Western Norway, combined with stable domestic traffic throughout the period. In addition, Bergen is a popular destination for many travelers to Norway.

“Many Westerners travel to classic sun and beach destinations, while city breaks in Europe are popular. At the same time, we also have a good level of domestic travel during the summer months,” says Eidsnes.

Prepared for high pressure

Bergen Airport has made preparations to ensure good flow through the terminal during a busy period.

– There will be a lot of people at the airport this summer, but a queue does not necessarily mean a long wait. When the flow is good, things often go faster than they seem. Follow the airline's recommended arrival time, and allow a little extra time to get your holiday off to a good start, says Eidsnes.

Five tips for a good start to your holiday

• Check how much luggage is included in your ticket before you travel.
• Check in digitally in advance if possible
• Lithium batteries and power banks should always be in your hand luggage.
• Have important documents, medications and necessities easily accessible
• Prepare for security check – have liquids and electronics ready
