AIA's Winter' 12-13 Incentives

Athens International Airport introduces new incentives for airlines aiming to support winter traffic 2012-2013

-   The New Targeted Incentives Scheme corresponds to discounts amounting to 30% on AIA’s aeronautical charges

In line with its consistent effort to support its airline partners, Athens International Airport introduces for the winter period 2012-2013, four substantial incentives, aiming to support airlines and incentivize them on sustaining  or increasing traffic during the winter low traffic season, amid the current extremely adverse period for the Greek economy and the aviation sector.

Further to the introduction of the new, targeted incentives scheme, the airport’s financial support to the airlines corresponds to an approximately 30% discount on AIA’s aeronautical charges for the winter period.

AIA’s new incentives are not focused strictly on incentivizing airlines’ developmental decisions, but they also take into account traffic developments during this difficult period. This initiative follows the introduction of the airport’s special summer incentives (in force during April-October 2012), which correspond to approximately 20% discounts on AIA’s aeronautical charges. With these measures, AIA participates even more in its airline partners’ risk, while at the same time the airport’s existing developmental incentives scheme continues.

AIA’s new incentives for the winter period

(November 2012 – March 2013)

Sustainability Incentive

15% discount on landing & parking charges per departing flight

In order to encourage sustainability of the previous winter period’s traffic, this incentive offers a 15% discount on landing & parking charges per departing flight, provided that the number of flights will be at last year’s level or at least will not drop below -15%. In the case of any positive percentage variance, the existing AIA annual incentive scheme will apply automatically.

Transfer Incentive

Ranging from 5 to 15 euros per transfer passenger

(Corresponding to a discount on AIA’s passenger charges ranging from 30%- 90%)

Aiming at maintaining the level of transfer traffic via Athens, this incentive offers all airlines a fixed amount per departing transfer passenger during the winter period (ranging from 5 to 15 euros per passenger, corresponding to a discount on AIA’s passenger charges ranging from 30% - 90%). It is reminded that transfer passengers are not subject to the Airport Development Fund (ADF), which is a governmental charge.

Winter Low Fares Incentive

In view of the continuous air traffic downturn resulting from the general economic crisis, AIA extends its special incentive throughout the coming winter period, firstly introduced during the previous respective period. This incentive corresponds to discounts amounting to 50% on AIA’s passenger charges for all low fare tickets to all domestic or international routes out ofAthens.

Load Factor Incentive

In addition to the above, starting from the winter period and extending throughout the summer period 2013, AIA, aiming at supporting airlines’ load factors and encouraging airlines to increase their traffic out ofAthens, offers a fixed return amount per additional passenger to those carriers that will exceed the threshold load factors, as follows:

1)      10 euros for every additional passenger, applicable for the winter period’s load factors exceeding 70%

2)      10 euros for every additional passenger, applicable for the summer period’s load factors exceeding 80%

provided that each airline demonstrates a percentage variance between 0% and -15% in the total number of frequencies and capacity, compared to the previous respective seasons.

Despite the fact that aeronautical charges are not a determining factor for passenger traffic development, with this set of targeted incentives corresponding to discounts up to 30% on its aeronautical charges, AIA seeks to contribute significantly towards stimulating the potential ofAthensaviation market during this particularly adverse economic situation.
