Athens : WizzAir continue to strengthen their position in Athens with new routes to Bucharest, Tel-Aviv and Tirana, offering 10 new weekly frequencies

In 2022, WizzAir connected Athens to 14 Destinations in total in 13 Countries, offering 600k round-trip seats.

WizzAir continued its development at Athens, achieving one of the strongest growth rates amongst all airlines, compared to 2019. During 2022, WizzAir almost reached half a million passengers (round-trip), scoring the highest number of passengers ever.

The airline (including WizzAir UK and WizzAir Abu Dhabi) increased its Market Share in 2022 and ranked 7th at Athens.

WizzAir commenced operations to/from  Athens in 2018, “writing” their own and unique Success Story and operating non-stop,  contributing to the spectacular recovery of the Athens market. In 2018, WizzAir carried 355 thousand passengers and grew by 37.5% in 2022. It started in 2018 with 9 destinations, building its offering even during the pandemic years, reaching 14 destinations in 2022.

To celebrate the inauguration of the 3 new routes, WizzAir and Athens International Airport held a Press Conference at down-town Athens with the participation of  all major media in Greece. The event was organized by Athens International Airport, as part of the airport’s continued commitment in supporting Athens airline partners, by enhancing brand awareness and promoting airline product and services in the local market.

At the event, Mr Adria Rabassa, Head of Network Development at WizzAir said: “We are thrilled to announce the addition of three new routes from Athens International Airport, which give our passengers an even greater variety of exciting city break and holiday options for Winter and beyond. We constantly strive to expand our route network, creating more low-fare connections whilst stimulating the local economies.
