THANKS 3 MILLION to the 3 million Passengers that chose Athens this May - An AMAYZING May 2024 !!!

Athens is becoming more and more popular, as 3 million passengers travelled through the country‘s  Capital and major gateway this May.  This is a NEW record for the airport, as for the first time ever, May PAX traffic surpassed 3 mio, recording an impressive increase of 18.5% to May 2023. 

Our numbers: 

- In  2023, Athens new  Record year so far, PAX traffic had  surpassed 3mio in July (also in August and September) and pre-Pandemic, 2019, Athens had surpassed 3mio only in August 2019. 

- May 2024 was even stronger than June 2023. 

 - This spectacular development is driven by the International front with +22.2% to May ’23 and Domestic with +10.6%.

- Year to May 2024, Athens is growing by 17% to the same period in 2023, with International growth at 21% and Domestic growth at 9%.

- During the first 5 months of the year, Athens welcomed already 1.5mio additional PAX to the same period in 2023.

During May 2024, Athens International Airport welcomed 22 New route developments and resumptions from 12 Airlines.

Our May events: 

May 15th 

Lufthansa’s  65 years of operations at the Athens market, with celebrations at the terminal on selected Lufthansa flights at that day and a Happy Birthday cake with Lufthansa and Athens teams at the airport.

May 20th 

British Airways Press and a Trade event, with British Airways showcasing its Premium product in the Athens market, as well as presenting all investments in the Premium product, planned for the following years. British Airways: a  long lasting partner with significant presence at the airport.

May 23rd & 24th 

For the inauguration of United Airlines NEW service to Chicago (ORD) Athens International Airport organized a Press event on the 23rd of May and  a Trade event at an eye catching location overlooking Acropolis. The following day, the inaugural event took place  at the airport welcoming the 1st departure of United Airlines flight to Chicago.

May 30th 

One more US development was celebrated at Athens with the inauguration of Norse Atlantic new service to New York JFK. In 2024, Norse is a New Airline that offers a direct Seasonal service to New York JFK. Again, Athens organized an inaugural event with the  ribbon bonding ceremony and the cake-cutting taking place at the airport and later the same day, a Press Event was organized  with the CEO and founder of Norse Atlantic Airways, Mr Bjorn Tore Larsen, presenting the new airline to the main media of the Country.
