«It starts with a D!» Athens to welcome Detroit in Summer 2027 with Delta, making Detroit the 11th US Destination for Athens!

Delta announced the addition of Detroit to the airline network to/from Athens for Summer 2027. In June next year, Delta will operate 3 weekly frequencies to Athens from Detroit, making this the first ever direct service between the two cities. In Summer 2026, Athens is directly connected to 9 US destinations, Seattle will be added in May 2027 increasing Athens US network to 10 and a few days later, Delta will add Detroit as Athens 11th US destination.

With this latest addition, Delta will increase its network from Athens to 4 destinations, supplementing Atlanta, New York (JFK) and Boston. American is offering 5 US destinations, as it added Dallas this Summer and United is offering 3 US destinations.

Back in 2019, Athens was directly connected to the US with 4 destinations and 46 weekly frequencies, while the network will increase to 11 destinations and over 100 weekly frequencies next Summer.

With the addition of Detroit, Delta is enhancing its offering for Athens and Greece from 4 main US Hubs, allowing passengers more options to travel non-stop or connecting to Athens.

Athens is the 7th strongest European destination from Detroit and the TOP unserved European destination in O&D traffic with over 32 thousand round-trip passengers (source IATA AirportIS).

O&D traffic between Detroit and Athens increased by 110% in 2025vs.2019 and it is increasing further by 5% in the first 8 months of 2026 vs.2025.

Detroit is the 3rd strongest HUB in the US for Delta, with the airline operating to 8 European destinations in Summer 2026.

US is Athens strongest International market in O&D traffic, reaching 2mio round-trip PAX in 2025, with a significant volume still traveling on a connecting service.
