Faro airport reaches 6 million passengers

An historical moment as Faro airport and the Algarve region celebrate 6 million passengers in 2014.

Faro Airport celebrated yesterday, the 30th of November, a milestone in regional and national aviation to reach 6 million passengers / year.

Passenger 6 million, Laurent Radinger, a young Surfer and Nature aficionado, traveled from Dusseldorf Weeze airport aboard a Ryanair flight bound for the Algarve and was surprised by the party that was waiting him at Faro.

On arrival of the Irish airline’s Boeing 738 aircraft, at 8:55 a.m., the passenger was presented with a voucher for a flight for two, courtesy of Ryanair, and a gift from the airport which embodies the identity of the region: a custom handmade Algarve chimney.

It was in 2006 that Faro Airport reached 5 million passengers and since then, the airport’s aircrafts per hour processing capacity has increased from 22 to 24 movements while maintaining the passenger processing volume at 2400 passengers per hour.

It is also noted that between the years of 2006 and 2014, Faro Airport has had an average annual growth rate of around 2.5%, and in this configuration has always sought to adapt to new requirements and the market growth of the Low Cost passenger. Also during this period, an 11 percent increase (ASQ Survey data) shows that staff at Faro airport stand out for their courtesy and efficiency of services regarding Check-in, Border Security and Control, as well as emphasizing the loyalty of the main markets that serve Faro Airport and the Algarve region: 1st United Kingdom; 2nd Germany; 3rd Ireland; 4th Netherlands; 5th Portugal.
