The 2015 index is led by Ecuador and includes two other European countries: Spain and Malta, in 6th and 7th positions, respectively.

The classification, which selects 25 countries, is based on several factors, such as real estate, the cost of living, the reception, the quality of health services, infrastructure and climate.
An article about Portugal published in the International Living page points out some of the reasons for the choice."Recently I spent some time in Portugal and was won over by the low prices. In addition, we highlight the mild climate, the quality of infrastructure and the proximity to Spain."English is quite understood, especially in the larger cities, which, combined with the hospitality of the Portuguese, facilitates integration and the feeling of being at home", summarizes the magazine.
